What to expect from eating disorder treatment

I work collaboratively and will help you link in with both your GP, a dietitian and other health care provider where needed. Not everyone requires all these services, but for most individuals, having the support of a team can help boost recovery, as well as keep you safe.

I will tailor my approach based on my assessment of your needs and underlying concerns. Some individuals respond very quickly to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Eating Disorders. This treatment involves regulating your eating and experimenting with challenging fears around food as well as working through thoughts and beliefs that may be keeping you stuck.

Other individuals may have an underlying trauma at the basis of the eating concerns and so if this is the case, we may need to process the trauma before you are ready to work on shifting certain aspects of the eating disorder.

It is quite common to feel scared about making some of the behavioural changes involved in recovery. If this is the case, we will work through any concerns you may have together so that you feel ready and comfortable with the pace of change.
